Senior Claims Manager - Greece

Reporting to Associate Director, Claims


The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Claims Manager to join, and eventually lead, our Personal Injury Expertise team based in Greece. This full-time role and offers a hybrid working arrangement.

 

Overall objectives:

To handle all types of People claims, primarily under the supervision of Associate Directors, to minimise third party claims against the Club’s Members in a cost-effective and flexible manner. To mentor and train Claims Managers and Junior Claims Managers in the Personal Injury Expertise team.

Where needed and requested, the team will be asked to assist with the setting up and monitoring of operational surveys for the Club’s membership.

 

Key duties:

  1. To have overall control of claims from inception to completion in line with the claims procedures in the Quality Manual and with due reference to the Associate Directors as necessary.

  2. To carry out the day-to-day handling of the full range of People claims without supervision and to handle appropriately sensitive issues arising during the course of claims handling.

  3. To assist in the preparation of Committee reports, as required.

  4. After due consultation with the Associate Directors and/or Members as may be appropriate, to appoint and oversee service suppliers to handle claims effectively and provide advice and raise any issues of concern with the Line Managers.

  5. To liaise with owner Members and Charterer assureds to ensure their reasonable needs/requirements/ instructions are fully met by using clear presentation and interaction.

  6. To reserve appropriately both in terms of entering an initial reserve promptly and keeping the reserve under review, in conjunction with administering the electronic claims records and provision of proper reporting to Line Managers and Claims Review Board (CRB) and ensuring all Estimate Authority Exceeded (EAX’s) are approved promptly.

  7. To attend events/courses and ensure that one stays abreast of relevant legal and procedural developments.

  8. To provide general advice to Members/Assureds undertaking any necessary research, in close liaison with the Line Manager.

  9. To mentor Claims Managers as required, and to run training sessions or provide advice consistent with qualifications and experience as required.

  10. To identify claims trends or issues which may be of relevance to the Club’s knowledge management and Club publications, such as Stoploss or Club News, and to assist in the preparation of articles for external publications or internal knowledge management data base, as requested or using own initiative.

  11. To participate in internal Committees, as requested, and to develop an understanding of the business as a whole.

Education

Graduate, any discipline.

Experience

A minimum of five years experience in a broad range of claims types, ideally in the P&I sector.

Technical

Use of e-mail, word processing and a claims handling recording systems/software.

Other

Must be prepared to respond out of hours to incidents. Provision of contact details out of hours is a requirement. Overseas postings are a possibility on an occasional basis.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Estimation - early, accurate and consistent estimation of the total cost of a claims and costs as evidenced by shape of the CTC graph on CSR. Providing adequate description and detail in CSR. Prompt closing of files.

  2. Electronic file administration and profiling. Maintaining an up to date and easy accessible electronic file for other users

  3. Control of costs - can they be measured by review of cases settled in previous six months - could we have spent less? - did we instruct the right people? Initiative to query fees where relevant

  4. Diary Events - to clear Diary Events and EAX’s promptly and 7 days in advance of the quartile.

  5. Meetings/training. To share experiences of common interest, either by a seminar/talk or by acting as an adviser consistent with qualifications and experience in particular types of claim.

  6. Knowledge and application of Quality and Claims Process Manual processes

  7. Knowledge management. Providing useful material and other feedback from files or otherwise to knowledge management administrators

  8. Mentoring of Claims Managers, measured by reviewing the CTC graphs and mentoring of temporary or work experience staff.

  9. Reviews. Participation in peer reviewing through the ISO auditing process every six months.

  10. Production of claim reports. To write/maintain and update as per manual.

  11. Business development/QA. Identifying and making suggestion to line managers concerning areas where the claims management/claims administration/costs control and business development can be improved.

Salary

EUR 100,000 – EUR 120,000.
