This circular updates our earlier warning on calcium hypochlorite and explains why members should treat carriage of the cargo with caution until further expert advice is available.

London P&I says the available information is still incomplete, but continuing fires in container and liner vessels suggest the cargo may present a serious risk. Members are advised to put safeguards in place so that any decision to carry calcium hypochlorite is made consciously and with up to date specialist advice.
