Deviations & Implications for P&I cover (5.640)

Download circular (PDF, 174.6 KB)

This circular explains how a deviation from a contractually agreed voyage may affect P&I cover, particularly where cargo claims arise from a rerouting decision.

London P&I refers assureds to the relevant bill of lading and charterparty terms, and reminds them that some deviations may prejudice cover if they breach the contract of carriage and remove defences or limitation rights.

We also explain when London P&I may maintain standard cover and when we may offer deviation cover as an extension, which should be arranged before the vessel deviates.
