This circular explains the IMSBC Code entry for direct reduced iron (D), the latest schedule for by-product fines with a moisture content of at least 2%. London P&I summarises the key hazards, certificates, loading requirements and ventilation measures, with the main focus on controlling hydrogen generation during carriage.

It also highlights the supporting role of the shipper, Master and cargo technician, and notes that the IMSBC Code remains the primary source of carriage requirements.
