Directive 2009/20/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 2009 on the Insurance of Shipowners for Maritime Claims (“Insurance Directive”) (5.442)

This circular explains how London P&I expects the EU Insurance Directive to apply to ships of 300gt or more, and how existing Club certificates may be used as evidence of cover in participating EU Member States.

It also sets out the information that must appear on the certificate, notes the position on transposition by EU Member States, and explains the approach taken to shipowner details for consistency with Bunkers Convention blue cards.
