Entry into force of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC) (5.474)

This circular explains how the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 affects shipowners as it enters into force on 20 August 2013. London P&I sets out the main financial security requirements, confirms the scope of standard P&I cover for certain liabilities, and notes the position on certificates of entry as evidence of security.

It also clarifies that the Convention does not require financial security for unpaid wages or recruitment and placement matters.
