GDPR guidelines for claims handling (5.557)

This circular explains how London P&I is applying GDPR principles to claims handling, with a particular focus on crew illness and injury claims. It sets out practical steps to reduce the risk of a data breach, including data minimisation, anonymisation and secure communication, and highlights members’ privacy responsibilities when sharing personal data.

It also explains when GDPR may apply to crewmembers inside and outside the EU/EEA, and suggests the type of privacy notice information members may wish to include in their crew contracts or collective bargaining agreements.
