This circular explains how London P&I and other International Group Clubs use AIS-based vessel tracking as part of sanctions compliance. It also sets out the limitations of AIS monitoring and why it must be considered alongside other data sources and expert analysis.

London P&I confirms that routine vessel monitoring can help identify high-risk activity, including unusual course changes, port calls in sanctioned countries and possible AIS manipulation, but it cannot on its own prove sanctions evasion.
