India - Safe shipment of Iron Ore Fines from Indian Ports (5.421)
This circular explains the risks linked to iron ore fines loaded at Indian ports and sets out the steps London P&I expects members to take before, during and after loading.
It highlights the need to comply with the IMSBC Code, local Indian requirements and any relevant documentation, especially where cargo moisture content may exceed the transportable moisture limit. It also sets out the master’s responsibilities, the shipper’s obligations, and practical precautions members should consider to reduce the risk of liquefaction and delay.
