International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships 73/78 MARPOL - Oily Water Seperators (5.351)

This circular explains the seriousness of MARPOL enforcement and the steps London P&I expects members to take to reduce the risk of fines linked to oily water separators, record keeping and waste oil management.

It also confirms that cover for fines arising from MARPOL breaches is generally discretionary, except where pollution is purely accidental, and that the Committee will look closely at the measures taken to prevent the incident.
