Turkey - P&I cover issue and petroleum products

London P&I confirms that the agreement with the Government of Turkey on P&I cover requirements now also applies to ships over 300gt carrying petroleum products through Turkish controlled waters.

We refer members to our news alert of 13 December 2022, which is available here. That alert explained the agreement reached between the International Group of P&I Clubs and the Government of Turkey concerning Turkey’s requirement for ships carrying crude oil and transiting or entering Turkish waters. Under that requirement, ships were to provide letters of confirmation from the owner’s P&I Club confirming that cover would remain in place while the ship was in Turkish waters.

London P&I can now confirm that the same agreement applies to ships over 300gt carrying petroleum products listed in MARPOL Annex I - Appendix I through Turkish controlled waters.

Members should contact London P&I for further information and for the documentation required for ships carrying these cargoes, as well as crude oil cargoes.
