US Voyages - Carriage of Persistent Oil - Application of 50% Rebate on Voyage Premium (5.447) (January 2012)

London P&I reminds members that US voyages involving tank vessels must be disclosed quarterly, including the nature of the voyage and, for persistent oil cargoes, the quantity carried. Where loading or discharging of persistent oil takes place only at LOOP or at one of four US Coast Guard designated lightering zones, the voyage premium is charged at 50% of the normal rate.

London P&I also notes that lightering may be allowed locally in other areas, but only the approved federal zones and LOOP qualify for the premium reduction.
