Members will already be aware of the Regulations concerning the low sulphur fuel requirements in specified Emission Control Areas (ECA), including Shanghai, Ningbo – Zhoushan, Suzhou, Nantong and all ports in Zhejiang, as outlined in previous News Alerts.

Members are reminded that as from 1 January 2020, in accordance with MARPOL Annex VI, the sulphur content of fuel oil used "on board" (including in main and auxiliary engines and boilers) commercial ships trading outside sulphur Emission Control Areas must not exceed 0.50%m/m. The requirements are referred to as the 2020 'Global Sulphur Cap'.

The website includes guidance on counter-piracy as well as other topical maritime security risks, such as human migration, war zones and cyber security.

As Members may already be aware, President Trump announced on Tuesday 8 May that the US would withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed in Vienna in July 2015, that suspended certain sanctions against Iran from January 2016.
