Maritime Security - New Comprehensive Website

3 July 2018

Following extensive consultation, maritime security guidance has been updated and made available through a dedicated website www.maritimeglobalsecurity.org. The website includes guidance on counter-piracy as well as other topical maritime security risks, such as human migration, war zones and cyber security.

The website has been launched with the aim of easing access for companies and seafarers to maritime security related information and guidance. Central to the website are new best practice guides to help companies and mariners risk assess voyages and mitigate against external threats to their safety. These are covered in three publications:

  1. Global Counter Piracy Guidance for Companies, Masters and Seafarers – This is a new publication containing guidance on piracy and armed robbery that can be used by mariners around the world. A copy is available by clicking here.
  2. BMP5: Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy and Enhance Maritime Safety in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea – This contains guidance for region-specific threats. A copy is available by clicking here.
  3. The third edition of the Guidelines for Owners, Operators and Masters for protection against piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea region. A copy is available by clicking here.

Members are encouraged to make extensive use of the guidance and materials available through the new Maritime Global Security website when undertaking future voyage risk assessments and implementing security plans.
